Overview

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Taiwan has dedicated arrival/departure, Customs, quarantine and safety-inspection procedures for foreign yachts. In principle, foreign yachts may call only at designated international commercial ports, except in emergencies or with special permission. Confirm applicable ports and procedures with the responsible authorities before sailing.

Ports of entry / departure

Foreign yachts crossing the border must use ports defined by regulation as international commercial ports, yacht harbours or announced harbour entry points. Except when authorized by law or in an emergency, do not treat an arbitrary fishing port or yacht marina as a port of entry for clearance. After entry, use authorized harbours for domestic passages as required. The Coast Guard lists fishing harbours where berthing may be requested, but that list is not a register of first-entry ports for foreign yachts.

Pre-arrival reporting

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Taiwan’s dedicated yacht procedure requires foreign yachts to notify the maritime authority of estimated arrival time and vessel details at least 24 hours before arrival. The notice is forwarded to Customs, Immigration, quarantine and safety authorities. Emergency shelter and other exceptions are handled under the responsible authority’s rules.

Immigration

Yacht cross-border notifications are received by the maritime authority and passed to Immigration, Customs, quarantine and other relevant authorities. The master, owner or agent must submit the notice as required and cooperate with arrival inspections. This does not replace visa and entry-eligibility checks based on each person’s nationality, travel documents and individual status.

After arrival, foreign yachts must complete Customs, Immigration, quarantine and safety inspections at an authorized port within the prescribed period. Before departure, they must also notify the authorities in advance and complete the required inspections before leaving. This is a Taiwan-specific yacht procedure and does not mean clearance is available at every port.

Arrival procedures

The maritime authority receives yacht notifications and forwards them to Customs, Immigration, quarantine, safety inspection and harbour-management authorities. Cross-border notices must be submitted 24 hours in advance. After arriving at an international commercial port, yacht harbour or announced harbour entry point, complete the relevant entry formalities within the prescribed period. Once inspections are complete, file a departure notice with harbour management. For domestic passages after entry, repeat Customs, Immigration and quarantine procedures may be waived when the requirements are met.
