Poland is in the Schengen Area and EU customs territory. Travel within Schengen generally does not require external border checks; yachts arriving from or departing to outside Schengen must follow external-border procedures. Personal border checks and temporary customs admission for the vessel are separate matters; vessel customs status and goods remain subject to EU rules.

Poland's current consolidated regulations list maritime border crossing points where recreational-boat passengers may cross, including Dziwnów, Gdańsk–Górki Zachodnie and Jastarnia. Łeba is authorized for maritime passenger traffic, but the regulation does not expressly limit this to recreational craft. Passenger-processing authorization at other ports does not establish permission to conduct border checks on private yachts. Confirm arrangements with the Border Guard in advance.

Déclaration préalable à l’arrivée

A yacht arriving from a third country must use a designated border crossing under Schengen rules and declare people aboard. If, in exceptional circumstances, a call at a non-border port is required, notify the port authority in advance and obtain permission; the port must contact the nearest border-control point and submit the people-aboard list. Do not treat this exception as the normal advance-notice procedure.

Crew and passenger entry

Border checks differ for people arriving within Schengen and those arriving from a third country. Confirm any port arrival/departure report separately.

Important 2026 update | European Entry/Exit System (EES): From 10 April 2026, EES is fully operational at the external borders of the 29 countries using the system. Eligible non-EU short-stay travellers may need to register passport details, facial image/fingerprints and entry/exit times. Exemptions apply, and the vessel's flag alone does not determine the outcome. On a private-yacht arrival, confirm how processing works with the actual border-reception port. This does not mean every port in the country can provide direct clearance.

ETIAS status (3 November 2026): The EU says ETIAS is not yet operational and is not accepting applications; it is not currently a travel authorization that must be purchased. Check again when an implementation date is announced.

Vessel customs

Temporary admission of a non-EU vessel depends on the vessel and user meeting the applicable conditions. The 18-month period is not the crew's residence period.

EU vessel customs temporary admission (Temporary Admission; separate from a person's stay): A qualifying privately used yacht registered outside the EU customs territory and used mainly by an eligible resident outside the EU may normally be used temporarily within the EU customs territory for 18 months with relief from customs duty/import VAT. If eligibility conditions are not met, the yacht is put to commercial use or it is not re-exported on time, taxes may become due. This is not an 18-month visa for people aboard.

Food, plants, animals, pets and controlled products brought from outside the EU must follow EU sanitary and quarantine rules. A yacht berth or vessel border inspection does not itself authorize importation of those items. Confirm requirements according to origin and category in advance with Polish Customs and quarantine authorities. Do not take items ashore without permission.

As an EU member state, Poland applies EU wildlife-trade controls. Protected species and products may require advance CITES/EU permits. Cross-border carriage of firearms and ammunition must comply with the EU authorization framework and Polish national rules. Do not rely only on a permit from the country of origin; obtain written confirmation from Polish Customs and the licensing authority before departure.

A yacht arriving from a third country must provide vessel details and a list of people aboard to border authorities under the external-border process. Border formalities are also required on departure. Only in exceptional circumstances may a port authority be authorized to receive a vessel at a non-border port and contact the nearest border station. Confirm eligible ports, hours and appointment arrangements with the selected port and Border Guard.

No uniform customs-clearance or departure fee applicable to all private yachts in Poland was found in this review. Berth, port-service, agent and overtime charges are set by the port/service provider; confirm current costs before departure. Schengen border checks, customs declarations for goods and port fees are separate matters.
