Explore arrival and departure guidance for private recreational vessels. Confirm current requirements with the receiving authorities before sailing.

Overview

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

In December 2025, Peru brought private recreational craft under a special customs regime for vessels used for tourism. Qualifying yachts, sailboats and similar craft may use the temporary-entry tourism procedure. On arrival, the vessel must have confirmation from the port authority that it will be received at an authorized location and must declare onboard goods and accessories. Implementation through VUCE (Single Window for Foreign Trade) is being phased in; check current procedures with Customs, port authorities and the maritime authority before sailing.

Current Peruvian regulations require private tourism craft to enter at locations authorized for reception by APN through VUCE; DICAPI and Customs are to publish the applicable location list. The latest authorized list could not be confirmed as formally published in this review, so do not infer yacht access from commercial-port lists. Check with DICAPI and APN before departure.

Pre-arrival reporting

The Customs temporary-entry process requires proof of vessel ownership/legal possession, people’s identity and stay documents, and submission of port-reception approval and an onboard-goods list as required. Available cruiser accounts of yacht operations at specific ports such as Callao are dated and are not supported by a uniform official rule. Confirm with local port management, Customs and Immigration before arrival.

Immigration

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Peru’s temporary-entry procedures for private recreational craft require the Immigration record of each person’s identity and permitted stay. Crew should therefore confirm entry eligibility, visa and length of stay based on nationality and itinerary before sailing. This does not replace Immigration’s decision for each individual.

Vessel customs

Supreme Decree No. 289-2025-EF took effect in December 2025 and brought private, tourism-use vessels under a temporary Customs regime. Under SUNAT rules, applicants must submit immigration stay authorization and proof of vessel ownership, lease or lawful possession; obtain port-authority confirmation that the vessel will be received at an authorized location (which may be processed through VUCE); and provide an onboard-goods inventory. Customs then processes temporary entry/stay. When not navigating, the vessel must remain at a qualifying activated port, marina or embarkation point. The temporary vessel period is linked to the immigration period granted to the people aboard. Follow current authority notices for authorized ports and VUCE implementation. The regime does not itself waive port, health or agent-service fees.

Peru’s SENASA provides an official system to search sanitary requirements for animal/plant products by product, tariff code and origin. Animals, plants, pets and their products may require advance permits, health/phytosanitary certificates and inspection; requirements depend on the item and origin. Traveller or pet rules do not settle quarantine treatment for yacht stores. Before arrival, declare relevant goods to SENASA and port quarantine officials and confirm the process.

Restricted items

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Peru’s SUNAT publishes prohibited/restricted import lists by product category. Restricted goods require authorization from the responsible authority or compliance with other legal conditions; lists may change by product and regulation. Check and declare firearms, ammunition, medicines, protected animals/plants and other controlled items individually before sailing. Traveller baggage allowances do not apply to yacht temporary admission and vessel stores.

Port procedures

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Peru’s 2025 rules require private tourism craft to enter through an authorized location and obtain APN’s reception certificate through VUCE; when not navigating, they must remain at an authorized port, marina or embarkation point. Earlier recreational-vessel rules also required international voyages to use listed ports and coordinate with port authorities. Confirm the current authorized-location list and documents with DICAPI, APN and Customs before sailing.

Fees and departure

Needs confirmation Checked · 2026-11-04

Customs procedures require temporary-entry documents and port-reception information, but no uniform clearance, agent or departure fee for all foreign private yachts was verified. Agent/fee information in Callao cruising reports is older third-party experience, not a current mandatory tariff. Confirm charges in writing with SUNAT, APN and the actual port before sailing.
