Overview

Oman's Ministry of Transport publishes a list of regulated ports, some of which also serve tourism. The list does not mean each port can clear foreign private yachts on arrival. Before departure, contact the intended port and Customs to confirm whether it receives visiting yachts and which procedures apply.

Immigration

Oman visa requirements vary by nationality and entry circumstances. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa page (updated 22 September 2026) lists some nationalities eligible for a 14-day visa-free stay, subject to passport-validity, return-travel and other conditions. Other travellers should check the relevant category through the Royal Oman Police eVisa system. A separate tourist-vessel passenger/crew visit visa, applied for by a vessel agent, is listed on an official service page (updated 5 August 2025) at OMR 5 for 10 days and OMR 20 for 30 days. Applicants must hold a seaman's book, be outside Oman and apply through a maritime agency. This service expressly concerns tourist-vessel passengers and commercial-ship crew; it does not establish that it applies to private-yacht crew. Private-yacht personnel should confirm visa category, permitted stay and whether a port application is possible with Royal Oman Police and the destination port according to nationality and entry method.

Oman Customs' official permit catalogue lists permission for a foreign maritime unit to enter through a border port and a separate departure permit. Before sailing, confirm the applicable permit, application method and required documents for a private yacht. The service details could not be fully retrieved in this review; no deadline or document list is inferred.

Oman Customs requires veterinary import permits for pets such as cats and dogs. Plants and plant products also require permits by category and must meet quarantine conditions. Certificates, vaccinations and inspections vary by species, origin and product. The rules above do not explain any exemption for ordinary food stores aboard yachts. Before arrival, declare and confirm requirements with Customs and agricultural quarantine authorities.

Restricted items

Oman Customs' controlled-goods permit catalogue includes firearms, ammunition, explosives, drones, night-vision equipment and other items requiring authority approval. Restrictions depend on the item and its intended use; traveller-baggage rules do not exempt vessel stores. If firearms, medicines, radio equipment or other controlled equipment are aboard, confirm permits, declarations and storage requirements with Oman Customs and the relevant authority before arrival.

Oman Customs' catalogue indicates that foreign maritime units must follow the border-entry permit process. Within MARAFI/Asyad port areas, port rules separately require advance contact with Port Control and entry approval, usually with at least 24 hours' notice. This requirement applies to the relevant port areas and is not a national list of yacht-clearance ports.
