Overview

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Vessel arrivals in Myanmar involve customs, immigration, port and port-health authorities. Myanma Port Authority's port directory is port information; it does not confirm which ports accept foreign private yachts for full entry clearance. Before departure, confirm the destination port, border procedures and security restrictions with the relevant authorities.

Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism includes yacht tours among special-interest tourism activities requiring permission. This indicates a permit process for tourism-related yacht activity, but is not a list of customs/border ports for foreign private yachts. The Port Authority's public Port EDI clearance guidance mainly concerns commercial vessel declarations and does not confirm which ports can currently complete full clearance for foreign private yachts. Before departure, obtain written confirmation from the tourism authority, Myanma Port Authority, customs and immigration at the intended port.

Pre-arrival reporting

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

The Port Authority's general vessel pre-arrival process includes confirming ETA, checking vessel and cargo documents, and declaring berthing arrangements. Arrival documents may include previous-port clearance, vessel particulars, general declaration, crew/passenger lists, ship's stores and cargo declarations, dangerous-goods and firearms/ammunition lists, maritime health declaration and voyage details. This webpage describes port-agent/commercial-port processes; it does not set a fixed advance-notice deadline for private yachts or say whether an agent is mandatory. Confirm with the destination port and customs before sailing.

Immigration

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Visa eligibility for crew and passengers depends on nationality, method of entry and purpose of stay; check in advance with Myanmar immigration authorities. The official eVisa information lists airports and the Kawthaung international land border crossing as designated entry points, and the tourism authority says eVisas cannot be used to enter by seaport. This does not establish that private-yacht crew may obtain visas on arrival at a seaport. Confirm landing, crew-change and stay procedures separately with immigration and the intended port.

Vessel customs

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Myanmar's Sea and Land Customs Act provides for vessel declarations and inspection after arrival at a customs port. Customs may require vessel, cargo, crew and voyage information; departure requires port clearance. Follow applicable statutory deadlines and document requirements, but the law does not provide a simplified list specifically for private recreational yachts. Before arrival, confirm vessel temporary import, declarations of stores aboard and departure documents with Customs.

Myanmar's official trade portal says plant and plant-product imports may require advance phytosanitary permits or certificates and inspection. The Port Authority's general arrival documents also include a maritime health declaration. These sources concern imported goods and general vessel documentation; they do not establish complete quarantine procedures for food, personal baggage, pets or stores aboard private yachts. Declare plants, animals, food and waste in advance and follow quarantine officers' instructions.

Restricted items

Official source linked Checked · 2026-11-04

Myanmar's customs law authorizes the responsible authorities to prohibit or restrict imports and exports of specified goods. The official trade portal lists permits and responsible authorities for controlled imports. Firearms/ammunition, medicines, plant/animal products, antiquities and protected wildlife may require declarations, permits or other restrictions. Public information does not establish all exceptions for personal-use goods or stores aboard private yachts. Declare items to Customs and obtain written guidance before carrying them.

The Port Authority's general arrival document list includes previous-port clearance, vessel details, general declaration, crew/passenger lists, stores, cargo and dangerous-goods information, firearms/ammunition list, maritime health declaration and voyage details. Departure generally involves vessel registration documents, port clearance, immigration, traffic and quarantine release. This list describes general port/agent procedures and may not all apply to private yachts. Confirm the processing location, office hours, agent requirements and VHF channel with the destination port.

Fees and departure

Needs confirmation Checked · 2026-11-04

No uniform total clearance price for foreign private yachts published by Myanmar's authorities was found. Port tariff schedules or commercial-vessel fees should not be treated as yacht-clearance prices. Agent, pilotage, berth, light dues and other services may also vary by vessel and port. Before departure, request a written itemized fee list for this vessel from port and customs authorities and confirm departure-clearance documents and receipts.
