Overview

Third-party source Checked · 2026-11-04

Noonsite's Malaysia yacht guide, reviewed in November 2025, says yachts may clear at several border ports on the east and west coasts and in Sabah and Sarawak, but local capability varies. Motor vessels/yachts and vessels over 24 metres must use an approved agent for arrival and departure. Confirm the actual port, agent and procedures with customs, immigration and maritime authorities according to vessel type and region.

Noonsite's November 2025 guide says motor vessels, yachts and vessels over 24 metres must use a government-approved agent for arrival/departure clearance and recommends appointing one in advance. Crew/passengers must also submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) under the rules then in force, usually within the three-day period before arrival. Before departure, confirm agent eligibility and any MDAC exemptions.

Malaysia's Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) treats vessels as conveyances and brings animals/plants, animal carcasses, fish, agricultural products, soil, microorganisms and food within the scope of quarantine/inspection. Imports may require permits, inspection or quarantine; documents depend on the item, origin and port. Before arrival, declare plants, animals and food aboard to MAQIS and local quarantine authorities and confirm whether they may be admitted.

A Malaysia Customs yacht circular cites section 17 of the Customs Regulations: a yacht master and passengers entering or leaving via a marina jetty must declare dutiable or prohibited goods and cash/bearer instruments exceeding the equivalent of USD 10,000, using Customs Form No. 22. Confirm whether the circular and form remain current. This is a personal-effects/cash declaration, not a commercial cargo manifest.

Noonsite's Malaysia guide says yacht clearance is usually free during normal office hours and the MDAC has no fee. Agent, port, overtime or local service charges may still apply. This is a third-party overview, not a uniform rate for every state or port. Request an official fee schedule and receipts.
