The Juan Fernández Islands are part of Chile and fall under the Chilean Navy's maritime authority. A Juan Fernández Harbour Master's Office is located in the Bahía Cumberland area of Robinson Crusoe Island, according to official information. Chile's Navigation Law says vessels may enter ports open to the Republic and that reception is handled by the maritime authority together with relevant government agencies. However, official sources reviewed do not confirm which locations in the archipelago are customs and immigration border ports that can receive foreign private yachts.

Before sailing directly from overseas to the islands, obtain written confirmation from the Juan Fernández Harbour Master's Office, the Valparaíso maritime authority, customs and immigration about whether first entry can be processed locally or whether border inspection and clearance must first be completed on mainland Chile. The presence of a harbour master's office at Bahía Cumberland does not itself confirm that it is an international yacht port of entry.

Official sources: Chile Navigation Law; DIRECTEMAR: Juan Fernández Harbour Master's Office.

Verification status: To be confirmed. The local maritime authority and general legal framework for port reception have been confirmed, but local processing of first entry for a foreign yacht has not.

Before planning a visit to Juan Fernández, contact the maritime authority and the relevant SAG office for the intended port to confirm whether it currently accepts international arrivals by foreign private yachts, and to establish the documents and agent requirements. Chilean DIRECTEMAR rules require foreign recreational vessels to follow the vessel-arrival/departure reception procedure. Foreign water-sports participants wishing to navigate Chilean inland waters must obtain written permission from the maritime authority at their first Chilean port. SAG inspects vessels, including sailboats, under its quarantine procedure; its published process requires the vessel's agent to notify the first and subsequent ports at least 48 hours in advance. A private yacht without an agent should contact local SAG directly in advance. These national rules do not establish that Juan Fernández can process international clearance.

Chilean maritime authority rules, revised through June 2025, say the PDI checks travel documents for passengers and crew at a foreign vessel's first port. The material does not specify any special visa, crew-change or stay rules for the Juan Fernández Islands. Confirm requirements according to nationality with Chilean immigration and the local harbour master.

Chile's Navigation Law and Vessel Reception and Clearance Regulations require vessels to be received and cleared by the maritime authority on arrival and departure. A vessel must obtain departure clearance (despacho/zarpe) and submit the applicable general declaration, vessel documents and customs paperwork. This establishes the general Chilean vessel-arrival/departure framework, but does not specify temporary import of a foreign private yacht in Juan Fernández, declarations of onboard stores, a bond, permitted stay or cancellation on re-export.

Before sailing, confirm available local customs procedures with the harbour master's office, Chilean Customs and a vessel agent, including whether entry or temporary import must first be completed at a designated mainland port. Permission from the harbour master to berth is not customs admission.

Verification status: To be confirmed. Chile's general vessel-reception and departure-clearance system was checked; local temporary-import and re-export rules for private yachts remain unconfirmed.

Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) expressly includes sailboats among vessels subject to maritime quarantine inspection. Inspections may cover the vessel, cabins and storage, deck and waste; quarantine measures may be required based on risk. SAG's published procedure requires the vessel's agent to report arrival information to the relevant offices at the first and subsequent ports at least 48 hours in advance. A private yacht without an agent should contact the local SAG office directly to confirm notification method, declarations of food and animal/plant products, and inspection arrangements. These are national vessel rules; whether Juan Fernández can process an international arrival by a foreign yacht must be confirmed separately.

SAG's Chile entry declaration requires people aged 18 or older to declare animal/plant-origin products, items and cash carried in baggage or a vehicle. Admissibility, permits and quarantine requirements depend on the item and its origin. Declare and present onboard food, meat, eggs/dairy, plants and pets for inspection as required.

Official information reviewed does not provide a complete restricted-items list for foreign private yachts in the Juan Fernández Islands, or all permit and re-export rules for firearms/ammunition, controlled medicines, drones, wildlife products, fixed equipment or goods kept aboard. Confirm each item with Chilean Customs, SAG and other relevant authorities before carrying it. Do not assume an item is admissible merely because it is not listed here.

Verification status: To be confirmed. General declaration categories were checked; procedures for yacht equipment and special items in the archipelago remain unconfirmed.

Chilean maritime authority rules, revised through June 2025, say the maritime authority receives foreign vessels and customs, PDI and health authorities may participate as needed. PDI checks passenger and crew documents at the first port. A vessel must obtain maritime departure clearance and submit a General Declaration before leaving. The local harbour master's order for Juan Fernández concerns opening berths on the north side of Bahía Cumberland; it does not set yacht-clearance steps. Confirm procedures with the local harbour master.

No official fee schedule was found that clearly applies to all arrival, berth or departure charges for foreign private yachts in the Juan Fernández Islands. Chilean rules require applicable maritime reception and departure-clearance procedures, but do not establish the total cost for a private yacht locally.

Before sailing, request current written quotations separately from the Juan Fernández Harbour Master's Office, port operator, customs and vessel agent. Confirm berth, services, overtime, maritime formalities and any clearance charges, and check required departure documents and payment receipts. Do not apply commercial-vessel or other Chilean-port rates directly to a private yacht in the archipelago.

Verification status: To be confirmed. No published fee schedule for foreign private yachts in this archipelago was found.
