Scope

Greenland formalities cannot be treated as mainland Danish or internal Schengen voyages. Remote areas and the national park require separate permissions.

Pre-arrival reporting

Vessels planning to call at Nuuk must give its harbour office ETA, stay duration, vessel length and draught at least 24 hours ahead, stating whether Nuuk is their first Greenland port. This is a Nuuk requirement, not a Greenland-wide yacht deadline.

Immigration

If Nuuk is the yacht's first Greenland call, its harbour office says it will notify customs and police for passport checks. This covers first-call Nuuk only. Other ports and a uniform yacht immigration process have not been verified. Visa eligibility still requires confirmation by crew nationality and travel document.

Vessel customs

Sikuki Nuuk Harbour states that if Nuuk is the vessel's first Greenland call, the office notifies customs and police for passport checks. This describes Nuuk coordination only, not vessel customs forms, temporary-import periods, stores declarations or a Greenland-wide sequence. Report ahead under Nuuk requirements and ask Greenland Customs whether registration, previous-port clearance, leaving the vessel, repairs or crew changes require extra formalities. Quarantine and biosecurity

Quarantine-preparation reminder: before visiting Greenland, list meat, dairy, eggs, fruit and vegetables, plants and seeds, pets, live animals and waste aboard. Ask about prior approval, health/vaccination certificates, boarding inspection, sealing and designated disposal. Do not land such items, animals or onboard waste without receiving-authority instructions. No uniform pet-entry or food-exemption rules have been confirmed here.

Restricted items and dangerous goods

Section 7 of Nuuk Harbour's rules requires vessels transporting, loading or unloading dangerous goods to notify the port at least 24 hours ahead, giving nature, quantity/weight, hazard class, UN number, packaging and onboard location. Except in emergencies, port entry requires permission. Listed categories include explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids, infectious and radioactive material and corrosives. Package, label, segregate and secure goods under the IMDG Code and applicable Greenlandic, Danish and international rules.

Scope: These are Nuuk dangerous-goods port-safety rules, not a Greenland-wide customs restricted-items list or complete ordinary stores declaration regime. Confirm other ports and firearms, medicines, wildlife products and similar goods separately with local authorities.

Arrival formalities

Contact Nuuk's harbour office for a berth beforehand. Call on VHF 12 or by telephone before berthing, then report to the office during working hours and pay applicable dues. This applies only to Nuuk; confirm other Greenland ports separately.

Fees and departure

Greenland and Nuuk publish port charges; visiting Nuuk vessels should pay the current harbour-office tariff. Reviewed official information establishes no uniform private-yacht outward-clearance amount. Cruise passenger tax and port service charges must not be confused with yacht departure clearance fees.
