Overview

Third-party source Checked · 2026-11-04

The Spanish Embassy in Malabo’s travel advice (updated 19 June 2026 and still marked current on 3 November 2026) says land borders in mainland Equatorial Guinea have been closed since 15 December 2025 for an indefinite period, while air and sea borders remain open. It also advises caution when travelling by sea and reports pirate attacks on vessels in local waters. The advice explicitly warns that recreational boating is prohibited in Bioko waters. This is foreign-government travel-safety advice, not entry authorization from Equatorial Guinea. Confirm current restrictions with local maritime authorities before planning a route.

Ports of entry and exit

Third-party source Checked · 2026-11-04

The Spanish Embassy in Malabo’s current travel advice says Equatorial Guinea’s air and sea borders are open but advises caution at sea and notes security risks. It does not list ports where foreign private yachts can clear. Before calling, confirm with the intended port, maritime authorities, Immigration and Customs whether it receives yachts for entry, and arrange the designated berth and duty coverage. “Sea borders open” does not mean every port can clear yachts.

Pre-arrival reporting

Third-party source Checked · 2026-11-04

The Spanish Embassy in Malabo travel advice says travel authorization is required for islands including Corisco and Annobón; travellers going from Kogo to Corisco by boat must show the authorization to local police before boarding. This advice is for travellers and does not give a private-yacht reporting process, general advance-notice period or document list. If the voyage includes these islands, confirm with local police, maritime and port authorities before departure whether authorization applies to the vessel, how to obtain it and what current security restrictions apply. The Embassy currently advises against tourist travel to Annobón.

Biosecurity

Before departure, confirm health declarations, vaccination documents, food, animals/plants, pets and vessel-waste handling with Port Health and quarantine authorities.

Restricted items

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Before departure, ask Equatorial Guinea Customs whether intended items are prohibited, must be declared or require a permit. UK FCDO entry guidance for UK-passport travellers says goods that may be prohibited or dutiable should be declared; this is not an Equatorial Guinea yacht-specific Customs rule. This review did not verify specific permits or limits for firearms, controlled medicines, wildlife products or cash. Do not assume an item is allowed based on this page.

Verification status: Official sources checked online (limited scope). The FCDO source applies only to the UK passport holders described on its page; confirm item-specific requirements with Equatorial Guinea authorities.

Puerto de Bata’s website lists the Capitanía Marítima’s responsibilities as vessel dispatch/release, crew embarkation/disembarkation, inspection of foreign vessels, managing anchorage and manoeuvring areas, and authorizing or prohibiting vessel movements into/out of Equatorial Guinea waters. The public page does not specify private-yacht check-in steps, VHF channels or office hours. Contact the office to confirm whether it can process this voyage and the arrangements.
