Overview

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Easter Island (Rapa Nui/Isla de Pascua) is a Chilean special territory. Law No. 21.070 regulates personal residence and travel, establishes normal stay limits and specifies entry documents such as travel documents, return arrangements and accommodation. Foreign nationals must also comply with general Chilean immigration rules. Hanga Roa maritime authorities manage sea arrivals and harbour operations. This is a summary of personal and maritime rules; confirm crew- and yacht-specific application with the harbourmaster and immigration beforehand.

A 2025 Chilean Navy official harbour-operating resolution confirms that the Hanga Roa–Hanga Piko bay area has a Hanga Piko multipurpose berth and other small-craft berths. Another Navy record describes an international vessel in Hanga Roa Bay receiving formal entry after customs and Investigations Police document checks. This does not authorise all private yachts to clear at any anchorage. Contact the Hanga Roa harbourmaster before arrival about berthing, inspection and clearance. Personal entry must also comply with Law No. 21.070.

Pre-arrival reporting

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

The Chilean maritime authority's Vessel Reception and Dispatch Regulations, amended through June 2025, require vessels bound for Chilean ports to report ETA at least 24 hours ahead. Application information includes vessel name, expected date/time and health status. These are general national vessel rules and do not separately describe Easter Island private-yacht channels or exceptions. Confirm with the local harbourmaster before sailing.

Personal entry restrictions for Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

Rapa Nui is subject to special residence/stay rules under Chilean Law No. 21,070. Everyone arriving by sea must meet the special territory's entry-authorisation requirements. Hanga Roa harbourmaster's 2025 local rules expressly require sea arrivals to have prior authorisation to enter Rapa Nui. Tourists must submit information through the official FUI portal and satisfy applicable return-itinerary, approved-accommodation or formal-invitation conditions. Tourists and invited visitors normally may stay up to 30 days. Available public pages do not explain yacht-arrival on-site FUI verification or special crew exemptions. Confirm with the Hanga Roa harbourmaster and PDI before sailing.

Vessel customs and arrival declarations

Foreign vessels arriving at Chilean ports undergo formal reception and relevant agency checks at the first port. Chile's Vessel Reception and Dispatch Regulations assign coordination of arrival/departure checks to maritime authorities and checks of foreign-arriving passenger/crew documents to PDI. Hanga Roa maritime rules also require every sea arrival to hold authorisation to enter Rapa Nui. Foreign private vessels may be subject to customs temporary-import and re-export rules, but no Rapa Nui yacht-specific clearance form, onboard-goods declaration or island stay limit was found publicly. Before arrival, confirm declarations, temporary import, inspections and departure formalities directly with Chilean Customs and the Hanga Roa harbourmaster.

Rapa Nui (Easter Island) quarantine

Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) applies special plant-health, animal-health and beekeeping-health measures to Rapa Nui. SAG expressly restricts animals carried from mainland Chile: currently only dogs and cats meeting official health-document requirements may enter; other animals need express SAG authorisation. Plants and propagation material are restricted. Propagation plants require a SAG transport permit and inspection; soil is prohibited.

These pages mainly concern mainland Chile–Rapa Nui movements and cannot replace import permission or quarantine formalities for foreign yachts arriving from abroad. Confirm admission and documents for foreign-origin animals, plants and related goods with SAG and port authorities before departure.

Restricted items

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Chilean Customs traveller declaration rules require declaration of goods beyond passenger baggage, cash and bearer instruments exceeding US$10,000 or equivalent, and animal- or plant-origin products. These traveller rules do not replace specific yacht cargo, onboard food or vessel-supplies declarations. Confirm the onboard inventory, quarantine and declarable items with customs before arrival.

Port procedures

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Chilean maritime rules, amended through June 2025, require reception of foreign vessels by the maritime authority, with customs, PDI and health agencies participating as needed. PDI checks passenger and crew documents at the first port. Departure requires maritime clearance and a General Declaration. These national vessel rules do not replace local Easter Island yacht berthing/clearance confirmation.

Fees and departure

Official source checked Checked · 2026-11-04

Chile's 2026 Maritime Directorate Tariff and Charges Regulations apply 10% of the relevant tariff to tourist vessels calling at Easter Island or the Juan Fernández Islands when the voyage makes no further Chilean port call. This is a rate for a particular tourist-vessel category, not total clearance costs. The amount depends on the applicable tariff base and vessel classification. Confirm private-yacht applicability with the Hanga Roa harbourmaster before departure. No uniform amount establishing all yachts' total charges was found.
