Visão geral
Bouvet Island is a Norwegian dependency and a nature reserve. The island and its territorial waters have been protected since 1971. It has no conventional port, residents or local rescue service. Its steep coastline makes boat landings difficult, with swell a potential hazard. Before planning a visit, contact the Norwegian Polar Institute and independently arrange a vessel with polar experience, logistics and safety support.

Portos de entrada e saída
Not applicable: Bouvet Island has no port, pier or conventional maritime border crossing. In principle, the regulations do not require a separate general landing or stay permit, but the coast is steep, landing sites are few and sea conditions often make small-boat landings dangerous. Helicopter landings are generally prohibited; where necessary, special permission must be obtained in advance from the Norwegian Polar Institute. The absence of a general legal landing-permit requirement does not mean landing is safe or will be authorised at any time.

Comunicação prévia à chegada
Before departure, inform the Norwegian Polar Institute of planned activities, voyage arrangements, landing methods and safety provisions, and confirm whether activity-specific permission is required. General landing or stays do not in principle require a separate permit, but helicopter landings, off-road vehicle use and certain reserve activities are restricted. Access to the Nyrøysa area from November 1 to March 15 each year is limited to approved environmental monitoring activities. If activities fall within the Antarctic Treaty area, separately check the applicable Antarctic activity notification and permit rules. Bouvet Island lies outside the Antarctic Treaty area south of latitude 60°S.

Imigração
Bouvet Island (Bouvetøya) is a Norwegian overseas dependency in a remote, uninhabited location. It is neither a conventional tourist destination nor an entry port with routine border checks. Norwegian official information states that, in principle, no separate permit is required to land or stay, but activities remain subject to island protection rules, and specific activities such as helicopter landings require advance Norwegian Polar Institute permission. Norwegian government legal guidance also states that Norway's Immigration Act does not apply to dependencies such as Bouvet Island. Do not therefore apply mainland Norwegian or Schengen visa requirements directly as island-specific entry rules. Official information does not provide routine crew-entry, passport-check or visa procedures. Before approaching, landing or undertaking activities, obtain written advice for the itinerary from the Norwegian Polar Institute and relevant Norwegian authorities, and separately confirm documentation requirements for departure points, transit points and the flag state. The steep terrain and very limited landing sites, together with sea conditions, often make small-boat landings dangerous. Official information states that there is no permanent rescue capability on the island; safety and evacuation arrangements must be made independently.

Alfândega da embarcação
Bouvet Island has no port customs office or yacht clearance facilities. The customs territory defined by Norway's Customs Duty Act excludes Norwegian dependencies, so mainland Norwegian customs procedures cannot simply be applied to Bouvet Island. No dedicated public procedure for visitor-vessel temporary import, vessel declarations or discharge of customs obligations on departure was found in this review. Before sailing, confirm vessel, supplies and return-voyage declaration requirements with Norwegian Customs and the Norwegian Polar Institute, and complete the relevant formalities at the ports actually visited.
