It names Big Creek, San Pedro, Punta Gorda, and Belize City among the ports of entry for private vessels. Confirm current availability and procedures with the latest Port Authority guidance.

Belize's official tourism information lists Big Creek, San Pedro, Punta Gorda, and Belize City as ports where private vessels may clear in; the page notes that the list is not exhaustive. Before sailing, confirm the port's current acceptance status and that it can clear this vessel.

The Belize Port Authority identifies SailClear as the official pre-arrival notification system for pleasure craft. The master or agent must submit voyage details online at least 48 hours before arriving in Belize. A vessel without advance notice must submit details at an on-site kiosk at a designated location after arrival and may be penalised for failure to notify as required. If you have difficulty submitting, contact the Port Authority promptly. Keep the acknowledgement and confirm current operating requirements at the port.

Belize's official nautical tourism guide says immigration and customs declarations for arrival and departure can be submitted in advance through the official electronic forms. Yacht masters can also use SailClear to submit vessel, people, and customs information for arrival. Confirm with the Belize Port Authority whether crew must separately complete Border Police or Immigration procedures, and check visa requirements for each crew member's nationality.

The Belize Port Authority's pleasure-craft notice requires the master or agent to declare the vessel's voyage and intended arrival through SailClear at least 48 hours in advance. This notice does not replace a Customs goods declaration or departure clearance. The Port Authority's general vessel-document list includes arrival/departure notices, clearance certificates, pilotage and boarding reports, cargo manifests, and other items, but the page also covers cruise ships and cargo vessels; not every item necessarily applies to private yachts. Belize Customs law requires vessels to obtain clearance before departure. Confirm current yacht-specific arrival reports, crew/item declarations, and departure documents with the Port Authority and Customs, and retain official release documents.

Quarantine and biosecurity

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is responsible for quarantine inspections and conducts checks at seaports including Belize Port, Big Creek, Punta Gorda, and San Pedro. Regulated plants, animals, food, and related products must meet sanitary and phytosanitary requirements. BAHA says imports generally require its permit; supporting documents may include health/phytosanitary certificates, treatment evidence, or an international health certificate. Before carrying pets, plants, meat, dairy, seeds, or other controlled goods, confirm permits, inspections, and onboard rubbish-disposal requirements with BAHA for the species, country of origin, and entry port. Pets and wildlife may need additional permits: BAHA says wildlife such as snakes, pet birds, turtles, and ferrets requires a CITES permit from the Forestry Department before applying for a BAHA import permit.

Prohibited and restricted items

Belize Customs' published Customs Regulation list of restricted imports includes firearms and ammunition, which require permission from the Commissioner of Police. Explosives, dangerous goods, controlled medicines, and certain plants, animals, and products may also require permits or certificates from the relevant authority. The online compilation is labelled as revised in 2003 and cannot confirm the complete current list or the procedure for securing weapons aboard a private yacht. Before carrying firearms, ammunition, spear guns, flares, prescription medicines, wildlife products, antiques, or large amounts of cash, obtain written confirmation from Belize Customs and the relevant authority about declaration, permits, onboard storage/sealing, and reclaiming items on departure. Do not bring them without clear authorisation.

Pleasure-craft port procedures

The Belize Port Authority uses SailClear as the official arrival-notification system for pleasure craft and requires voyage information at least 48 hours before arrival. A master who has not filed in advance must submit the information at an official kiosk after arrival; failure to provide advance notice as required may result in a penalty. The notice lists kiosks at designated locations in Belize City, San Pedro, and Placencia. Some are at private marinas or yacht facilities serving as kiosk locations; this does not require a vessel to berth there or mean that all clearance can be completed there.

Before sailing, confirm with the Port Authority, Customs, and Immigration where this vessel must report and the arrival-inspection and departure-release steps.

Fees and departure

The Belize Tourism Board's port requirements page publishes tables for private-yacht pilotage exemptions, boarding and clearance, navigation facilities, and port dues, with amounts stated in Belize dollars (BZD). The page says the requirements took effect on 1 April 2019; confirm with the Belize Port Authority before departure whether the rates remain current and apply to the vessel's tonnage and port. BAHA separately lists inspection boarding fees of BZ$65 per hour for large yachts and BZ$50 per hour for small yachts. This is a quarantine charge, not the total cost of arrival. Immigration, Customs, quarantine overtime, agents, mooring, and departure clearance may be additional. Before leaving, confirm outward declarations and clearance documents with the Port Authority, Customs, and Immigration, and request an itemised charge statement and receipts.
