Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) publishes general information about commercial ports such as Tema and Takoradi, but no official guide confirming acceptance and clearance of foreign private yachts was found. Ghana Sailing Club’s local sailing page says only a few yachts (about three or four) are known to have visited Ghana, that coastal security and suitable moorings are limited, and that it considers Takoradi a commercial port not ideal for yachts. This is local club experience and risk opinion, not a government ban, and does not prove the port will refuse a yacht. Before planning a call, confirm acceptance, berthing and clearance with GPHA, the harbour master, Customs and Immigration.

Ghana Immigration has seaport offices at Tema and Takoradi. First confirm which location can process entry of a foreign private yacht.

No official Ghanaian advance-notice period or submission channel for foreign private yachts was found. Some GPHA vessel forms date from pandemic measures or concern general vessels and should not be treated as current private-yacht requirements. Ask the intended port, Customs and Immigration before sailing.

No official public procedure for immigration clearance of foreign private-yacht crew in Ghana was found. Check crew visa/entry eligibility by nationality and current immigration rules; airport traveller guidance is not yacht-crew procedure. Confirm required lists, documents and reporting method with Ghana Immigration and the border authority at the intended port.

The Ghana Revenue Authority’s general temporary-admission rules cover conveyances and generally require re-export and a security. Confirm with Customs whether a private yacht qualifies and what period applies.

No official quarantine list for food, plants, animals, pets or ballast water aboard foreign private yachts in Ghana was found. General port-state control, traveller-baggage or cargo-import rules do not establish inspection duties for yacht stores. Check with port-health and quarantine authorities before sailing.

Ghana Revenue Authority traveller Customs information requires travellers to declare weapons and ammunition, but it concerns goods carried by travellers and does not explain stores retained aboard or not landed from private yachts. A complete restricted-items list for yacht stores has not been verified. If carrying weapons, ammunition, controlled medicines or animal/plant products, confirm declarations, permits and custody requirements with Customs and licensing authorities before sailing.

Arrival procedures

GPHA’s website provides general contact and port information for Tema, Takoradi and other ports but does not publish a procedure for berthing, anchoring or Immigration/Customs clearance of foreign private yachts. Ghana Sailing Club’s local page identifies Takoradi as a possible yacht call known to the club, but it is a commercial port; obtain permission in advance and confirm whether yacht clearance is available. This is club experience, not formal authorization. Contact GPHA, the harbour master, Customs and Immigration to confirm yacht acceptance, berth and processing location; do not apply commercial-vessel procedures automatically.

Ghana Customs law includes general vessel declaration and departure-clearance requirements, but no departure tariff or amount for foreign private yachts was found. Commercial-vessel, tonnage or agent charges should not be treated as a standard yacht fee. Confirm itemized charges and obtain official references from Customs and the intended port.
